William E. “Bill” Dieckman, age 97, passed away on Saturday, December 19, 2020 from Covid.
He was born and lived in Akron his entire life. He graduated from Ellet High School Class of 1942, and as a member of the Greatest Generation, he proudly served in the US Army during WWII. Bill was the owner of D & S Flooring for 30 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Margaret “Dottie” Dieckman in 2004; his parents, brother, sisters, in-laws, and son-in-law, Al Matson.
He was a member of New Franklin Masonic Lodge for 62 years, previously Amos Englebeck Lodge in Ellet, American Legion and belonged to Unity Church for 65+ years. He loved hunting, woodworking, gardening, and was the “Mayor” of Auburn Place.
His greatest love was his family – Karen (Bob) Libbey of South Bend, Indiana, Kathy (Butch) Kenney of Uniontown, Carol (Larry) Kayla of Hartville, Bill (Kathy) Dieckman of Akron and Christine Matson of Locust, North Carolina. He was “Poppo” to his 12 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews whom all enjoyed Uncle Bill’s sense of humor.
Cremation has taken place, private family services will be conducted at a later date.
Memorials can be made to Unity Chapel of Light, Tallmadge, Ohio, American Heart Association, or the American Cancer Society, or a charity of your choice.
