William R. “Bill” Gallagher, 89, passed away August 11, 2014 surrounded by his loving family.
He was born July 30, 1925 in Mantua, Ohio; graduated from Freedom High School and obtained a degree in chemical engineering from the University of Dayton. Bill lived in Mogadore most of his life and was a proud member of his community. He served as Mayor for 4 ½ years and as councilman for 8 years. He served in the US Army during World War II and the Korean War and later retired from Amoco Chemical Corp. as Sales Manager. Bill was an avid member of Mogadore Lions Club #300, was a former member of the Summit County Council of Mayors, American Chemical Society and Knights of Columbus.
Preceded in death by his wife, Mary; parents, Fred and Helen Gallagher; and brother, John. He is survived by sons, Tim (Sandi), Michael, and Chris (Elsie) Gallagher; grandchildren, Angela, Shawn, Jennifer, Nicholas, Brian, Anna, Joey and Kayla; great grandchildren, Taylor, Brooke, Shawn, Marcus, Marcelo, Nolan and Adrian; brothers, Leo of Mantua, and Bob Gallagher of Cuyahoga Falls. Bill Gallagher loved his family. The family would like to express their thanks to the staff at Altercare of Hartville and Crossroads Hospice.
The family will receive friends 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 34 S. Cleveland Avenue (Rt. 532), Mogadore, Ohio 44260 and will immediately process to St. Matthew Catholic Church, 2580 Berne Street, Akron, OH 44312, where the Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. with Father Michael Williamson presiding. Burial at Greenwood Cemetery where Mogadore VFW Post #8487 will conduct military rites. The family suggests memorials to Mogadore EMS, 135 S. Cleveland Avenue, Mogadore, OH 44260 or St. Matthew Catholic Church.
