Wilbur “Bill” Frieden, 87, passed away September 10, 2012.
Born in Akron, he lived in Mogadore most of his life. A U.S. Army veteran serving during World War II, he retired from the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company after 33 years of service. Bill was a member of Mogadore United Methodist Church where he was known as the “Candy Man”. As a member and Past President of the Mogadore Lions Club 300, he was instrumental in the development of Lions Park, and also helped to build the Mogadore Municipal Building. An avid golfer, he enjoyed golfing with the Grasshopper Golf League, and was a longtime faithful blood donor.
Bill is survived by his wife, Ruth S.; sons, Michael Frieden of Sarasota, Fla., and Larry (Debra) Frieden of Hilton Head, S.C.; daughters, Janis (Karl) Richards of Akron, and Diana (Kenny) Heft of Elkin, N.C.; seven grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held Thursday, 11 a.m., at Mogadore United Methodist Church, 3828 Mogadore Rd., Mogadore, Ohio 44260, with Pastor Dan Baer officiating. Burial will take place at Greenwood Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 34 S. Cleveland Ave. (Route 532), Mogadore, Ohio 44260.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mogadore United Methodist Church at the address above.
