Wayne L. Selden, age 60, passed away on February 25, 2015 at his home with his children, after battling cancer.
Born in Akron, he lived in the area most of his life and graduated from Lake High School. Wayne served in the U.S. Coast Guard on the presidential yacht for President Carter, and finished his service in Clearwater, Fla. He retired from Laborers Unions 894 and 310 after 27 years of service. An avid fisherman, Wayne was a member of Nimisila Bass Anglers. He also enjoyed watching OSU football, and being with his four grandsons.
Preceded in death by his father, Charles Wilbur Selden; mother, Mary Selden; brother, Gordon Selden; and half-sister, Margaret Moore of Scotland. He is survived by his son, Josh (Jessica) Selden; daughter, Jessica (Scott) Hosfeld; grandchildren, Fisher Selden, Carter, Callum, Cole (and expected in March, Cooper) Hosfeld; and half-brother, Ernie Moore of England.
The family will receive friends Sunday, from 2 to 5 p.m. at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Road (Route 91), Akron, Ohio 44312, where a Memorial service will immediately follow at 5 p.m. Sunday. Interment will take place at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery at a later date. The family suggests memorials to the American Diabetes Association or the Wounded Warrior Project.
