Walter J. “Walt” Evans, age 95, passed away on October 12, 2017.
Born in Rootstown, he was a life resident of the Mogadore area and graduated from Suffield High School. Mr. Evans served as a Staff Sargent in the U.S. Army during World War II, and spent over 30 years teaching and coaching at Mogadore High School. He enjoyed coaching, farming and playing cards, and especially loved spending summers fishing at his cabin in Canada. Walt loved time spent with his family and enjoyed attending all the kids’ sporting events.
Walt was preceded in death by his parents, William and Mary Evans; brother, Bill Evans; sister, Donna Vida (Evans); daughter, Linda C. Evans; son, Kenneth W. Evans; and son-in-law, Rick Lott. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Charlotte A. Evans (Frohnapfel); sons, Steve (Lori), Dan (Debbie) and Dave (Mandi); daughters, Diane Lott, Carol (Terry) Ilg and Jane (Ted) Kober; 14 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Lou (Chet) Rupert; and daughter-in-law, Wanda Evans.
Friends and family will be received for visitation on Monday, from 3 to 7 p.m. at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Road (Route 91), Akron (Ellet), Ohio 44312. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 2463 Waterloo Road, Mogadore (Randolph), Ohio 44260 with Father Thomas Acker, S.J. presiding. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. The family suggests memorials to the Suffield Fire Department, 1256 Waterloo Road, Mogadore, OH 44260; or St. Joseph School, 2617 Waterloo Road, Mogadore, OH 44260.
