Walter Callihan, 85, passed away December 7, 2012 after a brief illness, surrounded by his family.
Born in Akron, he was a life resident of the area, retiring from SGS Tool Company. Walter served proudly in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of Green Valley United Methodist Church, Adoniram Joppa Lodge #517 F&AM, Yusef Khan Grotto, Tadmor Shrine, 32nd Degree Mason, Scottish Rite, Valley of Akron, and Firestone VFW Post 3383. Walter loved his family, friends, country, dogs, birds and horses.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Gloria; daughters, Nancy Morgan (Ronald), Gail Scott (Jonathan), and Judy Callihan-Adams (Jeff); five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and sisters, Mary Montabone and Joan Bondurandt (Jim). Memorial service Tuesday, 10 a.m. at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 3553 Northdale St., UNIONTOWN, Ohio 44685 (one block NW of the square of 619 & Cleveland Ave.) with Rev. Jennifer Olin-Hitt officiating. Private burial will take place at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, where a Masonic service will be held at 4 p.m. Memorials may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children International Headquarters, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607.
