Wallace T. Brain

Wallace T. Brain, Sr., formerly of Warren, Ohio was born February 7, 1923 in Homestead, Pennslvania, and went to be with the Lord on March 7, 2016. Wally married Helen Williams on May 15, 1943, in Columbia, South Carolina. He served with the U.S. Army as a staff sergeant and was a veteran of World War II where he was taken as a prisoner of war during the Battle of the Bulge. After being liberated by General Patton’s Third Army, he was awarded the Bronze Star for his service. 

He spent 32 years at Copperweld Steel Company in Warren as data processing supervisor, playing an instrumental role in the installation of one of the first Univac Computer Systems in the country during the mid-1960’s. He also served as Treasurer of the Aristoloy Federal Credit Union at Copperweld, where Helen also was employed, for more than 10 years. After taking an early retirement he, Helen and his sons, Tom and Jeff, moved to Pompano Beach, Florida, where they opened a printing business in 1972. The family worked together in this business for the next 17 years before his retirement and move back to their roots in Ohio. 

While in Florida they were members of the Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church in Fort Lauderdale. He also was member of the Cortland Masonic Lodge for over 50 years. Wally and Helen lived in Kinsman for 20 years before moving to Green, Ohio, in 2012 to be closer to their daughter, Melinda, and her family. In 2015, they moved to GreenView Senior Assisted Living where Helen currently resides. 

Wally is survived by his wife, Helen; two sons, Tom Brain (Jan) and Jeff Brain (Debbie) of Pompano Beach, Florida; and daughter, Melinda Collett (Jon) of Green, Ohio. He leaves 13 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. The family would like to thank the staff of GreenView Senior Assisted Living and Summa Health for their caring professional service. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Green Veterans Memorial Park, City of Green, PO Box 278, Green, OH 44232-0278 or the Alzheimer’s Association, 23215 Commerce Park #300, Beachwood, OH 44122. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 12 at 3:00 pm at Greensburg United Methodist Church, 2161 Greensburg Road, North Canton.
