W. Stanley Shanafelt, 89, passed away Sunday, June 14, 2015.
He was born in Suffield and was a life resident of the area. Stan graduated from Suffield High School in 1943 and was employed with Field Local Schools as school custodian, bus driver and also farmed his own land. He was a member of Tallmadge Lutheran Church, Farm Bureau and a former Suffield Twp. Trustee. Stan enjoyed square dancing, gardening and playing euchre. He was a respected member of his community.
Preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Marion (Kuss) Shanafelt; son, Robert Shanafelt; parents, Hiram and Lottie Shanafelt; and sister, Martha Warner. He is survived by son, William (Tiff) Shanafelt Jr.; daughter, Bonnie (Cliff) Ahola; daughter-in-law, Monica Shanafelt; grandchildren, Tori, Morgan and Mike; great grandchildren, Colin and Brady; special friend, Ann Mishler; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Family and friends will be received from 12 to 2 p.m. Friday at Tallmadge Lutheran Church, 759 East Avenue, Tallmadge, Ohio 44278 with funeral services following at 2 p.m. with Pastor Andy Alberts officiating. Burial at Restland Cemetery in Brimfield. The family suggests memorials to the Suffield Volunteer Fire Department, 1256 Waterloo Road, Mogadore, Ohio 44260.
