Together Again
Virginia Lee “Nimmie” Durst, 89, went home to be with the Lord on May 21, 2024.
Born in Akron, she graduated from East High School and was a resident of Cuyahoga Falls. Of the many things Mom has done through her life and what brought her the truest joy was being a foster parent, with her husband, of 50 precious babies right from the hospital, 2-3 days old; one of which became her son and our brother. We believe he was handpicked by God and God miraculously healed him of no motor reflexes and we were able to adopt him into our family. Her second greatest joy was working for the City of Cuyahoga Falls bus garage running the bus rodeos and all the wonderful people and children on her route. Virginia was a member of Akron Springfield Assembly of God. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting, creating baby blankets, sweaters, and boas. She was very sociable and loved spending time with her family and friends.
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Homer Durst; parents, John and Goldie Allen; sister, Wanda Jean Westlake; and brother, Adam Harper. She is survived by her children, Beverly Sue Hopkins (James Russell), Brenda Lee Durst, Betty Jean Durst, Jeffrey Evan Durst (Regina); grandchildren, Johnathan David Durst (K-La), Samuel Matthew Hopkins, James Owen Hopkins, Brent Charles Hopkins (Breann), Emily Nicole Durst, Christian Alexander Durst; great grandchildren, Joslyn Ianna Hopkins, Samuel Wallace Hopkins, Blaise Edmund Hopkins.
Family and friends will be received Tuesday, May 28th from 5 to 8 p.m. at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Rd. Akron, OH 44312. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, May 29th at 12 p.m. at Springfield Assembly of God, 1551 Canton Rd. Akron, OH 44312. Burial will follow at Northlawn Memorial Gardens.
