Violet (Opal) Jones, age 93, of Akron, Ohio, loving Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother passed away Tuesday June 16, 2015.
She was born in Amma, W.Va. July 17, 1921 to the late Thomas McCune and Bessie (McGlothlin) McCune. We know mom heard Christ call her home to heaven… “Well done, good and faithful servant…today thou shall be with me in Paradise.” “Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more…will wipe every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”
We are eternally grateful to God for giving us mom for 93 years; she was a very strong Christian who taught her children and grandchildren about Jesus, an adult Sunday school teacher for many years and a fine homemaker who made the best homemade rhubarb pies! She was an active member of the Ellet Church of the Nazarene, read her bible daily, and prayed for all her family, friends and neighbors. She married her “sweetheart” at the age of 18, Orville Denver Jones, age 24, of Walton, W.Va. on December 20, 1939 in Catlettsburg, Ky. They shared 66 years of marriage until his death on January 12, 2006. After their retirement, they enjoyed many winters in Florida.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Lovell and Clyde; and one sister, Hope. She is survived by her son, Orville (Marty) Jones of Senecaville, Ohio; and daughters, Linda (Jerry) Scott of Akron, Ohio and Janet (John) Leitner of Collierville, Tenn.; grandchildren, Todd (Sandy) Jones of Uniontown, Ohio, Leah (Todd) Ackerman of Galena, Ohio, Kathleen Kreiger of Chillicothe, Ohio, and Suzanne Burkett of Uniontown, Ohio; great grandchildren, Abi Jones of Uniontown, Ohio, Nan (Pat) Mortier of Zanesville, Ohio, Will Krieger and Max Krieger of Chillicothe, Ohio and Alex Burkett and Adam Burkett of Uniontown, Ohio.
Calling hours will be Tuesday, June 23 from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m., with a Funeral Service at 12 p.m. at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Road (Route 91), Akron, Ohio 44312. Pastor Jim Nolte of Uniontown United Methodist Church will be officiating. Burial will be at Hillside Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Creative Living, 150 West 10th St., Columbus, OH 43201-2093.
