Tracy L. Wharton Jr., 79, of Uniontown, Ohio passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, January 9, 2018.
Born in Greensburg, Ohio, he was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, having earned a National Defense Medal during the Korean War.
Tracy received a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Management from the University of Akron, and was employed for 21 years at Babcock & Wilcox in Barberton. He retired from the Department of Defense as an Industrial Specialist after working at Wright Patterson AFB and Loral Defense Systems. Tracy also received a Civilian Award during the Gulf War.
Preceded in death by his parents, Tracy L. Wharton Sr. and Esther; stepfather, Marvin Cunningham; and sister, Betty Wharton. He is survived by his wife of more than 57 years, Alice Kay Wharton; son, Brian (Cindy) of Arlington, Texas; daughters, Kathleen Schoenegge and Sonja Wharton, both of Akron; grandchildren, Angela and Robert Wharton; sister, Luella Huston; brothers, Ed Wharton, Marvin “Bud” Cunningham (Brook), Chuck Cunningham and Terry (Andrea) Cunningham; many nieces and nephews; and special family members, Iva, Ron and Adam Lehman.
Friends and family will be received Sunday, from 2 to 5 p.m., and Monday, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 3553 Northdale Street NW, UNIONTOWN, Ohio 44685 (one block NW of the square of 619 & Cleveland Ave.) Funeral Service will be Monday, 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Josh Deeter officiating.
