Therese M. Matthews

Therese M. Matthews, 84, passed away May 4, 2012.

Born in Belgium, she lived in the Akron area most of her life.  Mrs. Matthews retired from St. Thomas Hospital, and was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church.

Preceded in death by her husband, Larry “Pete”; daughter and son-in-law, Anita and Michael Pologi; grandson, Kenneth Pologi; and sister, Simone Sanders; she is survived by son, Jerry (Lidie) Matthews; grandchildren, Tara (Ben) Pologi, Kelly (Matt) Adams, Kimberly (Michael) Falanga, Christopher (Michelle) Matthews and Victoria (Russ) Greatwood; and the light of her life, her great-grandchildren, Noah, Canon, Luke and Will Falanga, and Isabella, Nicholas and Addison Adams.  Also surviving in Belgium are brothers, Jos and Louis; and sisters, Jacqueline and Hermine Sanders.

With great appreciation and special thanks to New Horizons Adult Day Services for all their loving care.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, 10 a.m., at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 2603 Benton St., Akron 44312, with Father Michael Williamson celebrating.  Burial will take place at Hillside Memorial Park.  Friends may call at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Rd., Akron 44312, from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to New Horizons Adult Day Services, 1900 23^rd Street, Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44223.
