Thelma Irene Lyons

Thelma Irene Lyons (Reed), age 91 of Akron, went home to meet the Lord on August 26, 2015 after a short illness. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. 

Mrs. Lyons was born in Muncie, Indiana on March 31, 1924, but lived most of her life in Albany, Kentucky and Akron, Ohio. She worked as a beautician, at Goodyear, and retired from Teledyne Monarch in Hartville. Thelma was a member of the Order of Eastern Star for over fifty years, and enjoyed traveling and attending her family’s many sporting events. She also enjoyed crocheting with her sister. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edna Reed Smith and Ira Reed; her beloved husband of 47 years, John H. Lyons; her brother, Kenneth Reed of Tennessee; and her sister, Wilma Pierce of Cincinnati. She is survived by daughter, Deborah of Uniontown; daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Greg Smerekanich of Green; son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Debra of Westfield Center; five grandchildren, Andrew (Susan) Smerekanich, Kelly Smerekanich, Joe Lyons, Nathan (Jen) Lyons, and Elizabeth (Stacy) Bennett; and six great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her sister, Betty Law of Wadsworth; her brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Louise Reed; and her sister-in-law, Jane Reed, all of Tennessee. Thelma will be greatly missed by her family and many loving relatives and friends. She will remain in our hearts forever. 

Family and friends will be received Sunday, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Road (Route 91), Akron (Ellet), Ohio 44312. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home Monday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Aaron Varner officiating. Burial will follow at Hillside Memorial Park.
