Shirley May Sayre, 90, went home to be with the Lord and to be reunited with her husband and the love of her life, Lester, on May 27, 2024.
Born in Weirton, W. Va., she lived most of her life in that area until getting married and moving to Greensburg. For the last 60 years she lived in Hartville. Shirley worked from 1980 to 1982 at St. Luke’s as a cook and was a loving homemaker who took great care of her family. She enjoyed gardening and taking care of all her plants and flowers, as well as traveling with her husband and family.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Lester, and daughter, Rebecca Grocott. She is survived by her children, Norma Jean (Edward) Hershey, Richard Earl (Donna) Sayre, Leslie Kay (Charles) Bittler, Lester H. Sayre III; six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
Family and friends will be received Friday, May 31st from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Rd. Akron, OH 44312. A private family service will be held immediately following with interment at Mount Peace Cemetery in Hartville.
