Ruth Annabelle (Chevalier) Coey, age 99, passed away September 18, 2017 after a short illness.
She was born in Glouster, Ohio in 1918, moved to Akron at age 8, and spent the rest of her life in the Akron area. Ruth graduated from Akron South High School in 1936, retired from Centran Bank (now Key Bank), and was a longtime volunteer at Akron City Hospital. She was a member of Oak Hill Presbyterian Church.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Rolland and Mabel Chevalier; brothers, Jack (Nancy) Chevalier and Charles “Chick” (Irene) Chevalier; and brother-in-law, Russell (Angeline) Coey. She is survived by her husband of 76 years, Garrett; daughter, Pamela (Gary) Rine of Norton; grandchildren, Tracey (Brian) Muir of Wadsworth, Kelley (Rob) Martin of Franklin, Mich., and Kevin (Melissa) Rine of Smyrna, Ga.; great-grandchildren, Meganne Muir, Lauren Muir, Andrew Martin and Lindsay Martin; nieces, Lynne (Mel) Pizer, Sandra (James) Troxell, Carol (Paul) Archer; nephews, Wayne (Laura) Chevalier and William (Jan) Coey; and many other relatives and friends.
Per Ruth’s request, there will be no visiting hours. A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held at a later date. Private services will be held at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Seville with Rev. Brian Nutt officiating.
The family wishes to thank the staff of The Inn at CoalRidge in Wadsworth, and the staff of Hospice of Western Reserve for their loving care during Ruth’s illness.
