Rosalyn Genevieve Burton (nee Thomas), 58, fiancée and soul mate of Bill Lakins, went to be with the Lord October 31, 2012 after losing her courageous battle with a five-month illness.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert L. and “Jane” Thomas (nee Sheehe); brother, Ralph Thomas; and brother-in-law, Calvin Hartline.
She is survived by Bill Lakins; step-son, Perry Lakins (Denise); step-daughter, Sharon Cummings (Michael Sands); grandchildren, Jeff and Laura Lakins, Cory Cummings (Sarah Clark), Craig Cummings (Miriah Pendleton), Joseph Sands; great-grandson, Aden Clark; sisters and brothers, Roxanne Grucca (Joe), Rhonda Hartline (Gary Beury), Patrick Thomas, Roberta Jackson (Lee), Renee Sheehe (Denise), Pamela Thomas, Paula Marsh, Joseph Thomas (Tonya Caldwell); and best friends ‘til the end, Pam Baughman and family. She was Aunt Roz to numerous nieces and nephews.
She is loved and will be missed, but will remain in our hearts. Rosalyn graduated from Buchtel High School Horticulture Program, Class of 1973. She used her education throughout her life to make the world a more beautiful place. She will be remembered for the exquisite flower gardens she lovingly created and cared for at Portage Country Club for the past nine years. Prior to that, she was the owner of West Hill Floral and earlier in her career, she was the caretaker and groundskeeper at Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens.
Funeral service Saturday, 11 a.m., at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Rd., Akron, Ohio 44312. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, and from 10 a.m. until service time on Saturday. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Ellet High School Softball Team, 537 Herbert Road, Akron, OH 44312.
