Rosalie (Butera) McDermott, passed away peacefully on June 24, 2012 surrounded by her family and friends.
She was born on August 9, 1938 in New Castle, Pennsylvania to Michael and JoAnna Butera. Rosalie was a graduate of New Castle High School, Slippery Rock State Teachers College, and the University of Akron. She was a dedicated teacher for 32 years primarily at St. Matthew Parish School and Tallmadge City Schools. In 1985, she received the Tallmadge Teacher of the Year Award. The proud mother of three children and six grandchildren, family was the center of Rosalie’s life. We will all miss her loving ways, thoughtfulness, laughter, kindness and generosity toward everyone.
Rosalie is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, Charles McDermott; son, Peter McDermott; daughters, Marianne (Gilbert) Gradisar and Tami (David) Folk; grandchildren, Sean, Jack, Nicolas, Katherine, Anna Rose, and Alexander. She is also survived by brother, Joseph Butera; devoted sister-in-law and friend, Kathleen (Stuart) Rothman; and many wonderful friends.
The McDermott family would like to extend their appreciation to Brookdale Place, Claire Bridge Memory Care and to Louise Hellwig and the Aseracare Hospice for their superb care and support.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday 11 a.m. at St. Matthew 2603 Benton Street, Akron, Ohio 44312 with Father Michael Williamson officiating. PROCESSION WILL ORIGINATE AT THE FUNERAL HOME WEDNESDAY. Burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends may call 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Road, Akron, Ohio 44312.
