Roderick Earl Black Sr., age 84, went home to be with the Lord on January 4, 2017.
He served in the U.S. Air Force for eight years and retired from Goodyear. He was an active member of Community Baptist Temple.
Rod Black has no more pain, worries or stresses. He was known not only for being handsome and ornery here on earth, but also as a Loving Husband, Wonderful Father, and Grandpa to the many who loved him.
He is survived by his wife, Betty of 59 years; children, Rod Jr. (Debbie), Sandy Whittaker (Duane), Karen Slabaugh (Dave) and Tim (Vicki); 19 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Lillian Fusselman; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral service will be Saturday, 12 noon at Community Baptist Temple, 1370 Canton Road, Akron, OH 44312 with Pastor Mark O’Donnell officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Akron. The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday, from 10:30 a.m. until the service at 12 noon.
