Robert (Bob) Raymond Hackel

Robert Hackel, age 80, passed away April 18, 2013, after a long illness.

Robert, born July 11, 1932, was preceded in death by parents, Florance (Brach) and Raymond Hackel; his sister, Betty Wade; and his first wife, Doris (Hoefflin). He will be greatly missed by his five loving children, Jean Miller, Thomas Hackel, David (Kelly) Hackel, Carol (Randy) Malick, and Susan (Mark) Gaskill; and grandchildren, Celeste and Christian Miller, Tyler Hackel, Lily and Joseph Malick. He is survived by his wife, Elva.

Robert was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War. He received a degree in Mechanical Engineering from University of Louisville in Kentucky. He married the love of his life, Doris Hoefflin in 1960. They moved to Akron to begin their life together and soon started a family. He worked in mold design at Goodyear, retiring with 37 years of service. Dad taught by example to be responsible, dedicated and hard-working. He benefited many with his generosity. An avid gardener, he enjoyed sharing his produce with neighbors and friends. He was a member and president of Goodyear Runner’s Club and logged 18,000 miles. He was a regular blood donor, donating over 29 gallons of blood.

Friends may call Sunday, April 21 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Road, Akron, Ohio 44312. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, April 22, 10 a.m. at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 2603 Benton Street, Akron, Ohio 44312 by Father Michael Williamson. PROCESSION WILL FORM AT THE CHURCH. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, where Mogadore VFW Post 8487 will conduct military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Greater Akron, 7996 Darrow Road, Twinsburg, OH 44087; or Hospice Care Center, 3358 Ridgewood Road, Akron, OH 44333-3118.
