Robert A. Mong, age 68, was reunited with his loving wife of 43 years, Mary on June 10, 2013, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Robert was born in Canton on September 13, 1944 to the late Lawrence and Margaret Mong. He graduated from East Canton High School in 1962, and following graduation served with the U.S. Navy on the USS Constellation during the Viet Nam War from 1962 to 1965.
He is survived by daughters, Dawn (Steven) Shaffer and Debra (Rich) Hailstone; grandchildren, Richie Hailstone, and Aiden and Alysha Shaffer; brother, Marty (Sandy) Mong; sister, Marian (Jim) Sabo; and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the entire staff at Tri-County Hematology & Oncology, the 8th Floor at Mercy Hospital, and the entire staff at Aultman Woodlawn Compassionate Care Center.
Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 3553 Northdale Street N.W., UNIONTOWN, Ohio 44685 (one block NW of the square of 619 & Cleveland Ave.), where memorial service will follow at 6 p.m., with Pastor Jim Roma officiating. Private family interment with military honors will take place at Forest Hill Cemetery in Canton. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Aultman Compassionate Care Center, 2821 Woodlawn N.W., Canton, OH 44708-1423.
