Robert Wayne Cuthbert, 93, passed away February 12, 2013.
Born June 12, 1919 in Akron, he was a life resident of the area, graduating from West High School. Mr. Cuthbert served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a member of the 778th “Dog Battery”. He was employed with Central News Agency for 46 years, where he held the company record for longest service and worked many different jobs. Wayne was a member of Coventry-Akron Lodge No. 83 F&AM for over 70 years, and a lifetime member of A.A.S.R., Valley of Canton. His memberships also included Tadmor Shrine, the Teamsters, and Ellet High School Booster Club. In his spare time, Wayne enjoyed working on model trains.
Preceded in death by his parents, John Robert and Ada Naomi Cuthbert, he is survived by his wife, Vidalee; and son and daughter-in-law, Robert James and Catherine Ann Cuthbert.
Funeral service will be Saturday, 10:30 a.m. at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 3553 Northdale St. NW, UNIONTOWN, OH 44685 (one block NW of the square of 619 & Cleveland Ave.) with Rev. Fleary Spurlock officiating. Burial will follow at Hillside Memorial Park, where military rites will be conducted by Mogadore VFW Post 8487. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, where a Masonic service will be held at 7 p.m. Additional calling hours Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until service time. The family suggests that memorials be made to Tadmor Shrine, 3000 Krebs Drive, Akron, OH 44319.
