Richard G. "Dick" Hummel, age 73, passed away after a short illness on December 27, 2014.
He was born in Akron, graduated from Ellet High School in 1959, and was a life resident of the area. Dick was a sergeant in the U.S. Army from 1965 to 1968, serving two years in Vietnam. Dick worked 40 years with the Insulators Union Local #84, retiring in 2003. He was a lifetime member of Airport VFW #8975, the Eagles and American Legion.
Preceded in death by his parents, brother, and son, Stephen; he is survived by daughter, Julie Kingan of Akron; grandchildren; sister, Marilyn Burk of Akron; nieces and nephews. Dick had many friends that loved him. He will be sadly missed but not forgotten.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m., and Monday from 10 to 11 a.m., at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Road (Route 91), Akron, Ohio 44312, where funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Pam Gable officiating. Burial will follow at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
