Born on September 9, 1948 in Akron, Ohio to Clarence Elwood and Lois Miller Woodruff, she lived most of her life in Ellet, graduating from Ellet High School in 1966.
Becky attended the University of Akron and Youngstown State University where she earned degrees in Special Education and Theater. She taught Special Education in Akron at South, Buchtel and East High School and was one of the pioneer teachers in pre-kindergarten and primary Special Education classes at David Hill School. Becky’s love for the performing arts reached into the classroom making them an integral part of learning success.
Becky’s talents were many. She enjoyed acting, singing, dancing, exercising, swimming, reading, researching, volunteering, painting and crocheting. Becky worked with Kenley Players, Goodyear Theater, Carousel Dinner Theater and the Canal Fulton Theater. Having a trained voice, she entertained at various nursing homes as well as other venues. Becky belonged to a dance club and went to the Natatorium regularly. She read to the blind on the radio each week, authored and published two books, while illustrating another book. Becky enjoyed painting and creating. Her last endeavors were paintings of her eight-month journey with cancer. Never to stay still, she would crochet doll clothes to give away when she had a few minutes. She always had yarn and a crochet hook in her purse or bag.
Becky is survived by her mother; sister, Bridget; brother, Thomas; several nieces and nephews; and special cousin, Bill Brake.
A special thank you to her special friend, Virl Andrick of New York for calling Becky each day. Also to her dear friend, Sheila Green for being with her during this journey, and Dr. Clifford, Summa Barberton Hospital, and the staff at Altercare of Hartville for their care.
