Ralph Edward Greene passed away June 10, 2017. He was 77 years old. He was born in Barberton, Ohio. He grew up in Coventry Township and moved to Copley during high school, graduated in 1958. He joined the Army Reserves the summer of 1958 and did basic training at Ft. Knox. He lived in Springfield Township the past 46 years.
As a young father he worked for Reiter Dairy delivering milk to neighborhoods as far as Medina. In 1965 he started working at Goodyear Aerospace, running machines. He retired at 37 years as a wheel and brake inspector in 2002. At that time Aerospace was owned by K&F Industries.
In high school Ralph was a varsity baseball player for four years. He was scouted by a professional team. He continued playing on adult leagues for many years.
Ralph enjoyed camping, boating, and fishing. The family spent many days at Salt Fork State Park, staying in Kimbolton with his parents. Ralph owned a pontoon boat and camper that the whole family enjoyed. He was a loving father of five and often opened his home to their friends. In 1984 he added two more daughters when he married Linda. For several years, six children lived with Ralph and Linda.
Ralph enjoyed traveling to Georgia, Florida, the Outer Banks, Colorado, and Washington, DC. He liked to visit historical sites, especially Civil War sites or Indian Sites. He visited all the Indian Mounds in Ohio and Cahokia Mounds in Illinois and Mesa Verde National Park in Colorado.
In the past few years he could be found at Goodwill and Marc’s looking for bargains. He spent summers at the Hartville Flea Market selling a little of everything.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Dorothy (Croft) Greene and daughter, Lynette Barton. He is survived by sister, Susan (Randall) Davis of Huntersville, North Carolina; wife of 32 years, Linda (nee Klooz); son, David of Akron; daughters, Sheryl (Mark) Clounie of Peachtree City, Georgia, Karen, Linda (Bruce) Thompson of Deerfield Beach, Florida; stepdaughters, Krista Shaffer of Akron and Kate (Ryan) Pinkus of Doylestown, Ohio. Grandchildren, Jamie Greene, Clifton Skeen, Shelby and Kaley Greene, Joshua, Anna and Kaitlin Clounie, Rachel and Caleb Thompson; step granddaughters, Ally and Mila Pinkus.
Calling hours are Friday, June 23, from 4 to 7 p.m. and memorial service Saturday, June 24 at 11 a.m., both at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Road, Akron, Ohio 44312.
