Phillip G. Marquette, age 80, went home to be with the Lord on January 21, 2014.
Born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, he lived in Uniontown, Ohio. Phil graduated from Findlay High School, attended The University of Akron for Engineering and served in the United States Army.
Phil is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Emily B. Marquette; and his adoring children, Nanette M. Meeks, Debi A. Marquette, and Donald F. (Carolyn) Marquette. He is also survived by six loving grandchildren, Chris (Treena), Stephanie (Robert), Vincent, Marie, Audrey and Erik; and two sweet great-grandsons, Hayden and Mason.
Phil was the Founder of Mogadore Patterns, Inc., an innovative leader in Akron’s tire mold industry. He was proud to be a patternmaker in the tire industry and counted it as the most prized profession. Phil was an industrial genius and gadgeteer. Always the entrepreneur, he also founded Mogadore’s Flower Corner. Phil was a charismatic and inspiring businessman with integrity and positive values. He is renowned for his mentoring and guided the paths of loved ones and friends. Know where you are going before you get there and don’t anger your benefactors.
Phil passionately lived a long and fascinating life. He was a remarkable man: private airplane pilot, dedicated family man, craftsman, fisherman, adventurer, BMW rider, car enthusiast, food connoisseur, teacher, and family patriarch. His legacy is his influence on countless lives, each forever changed by his support, advice, and self-investment. Phil's life is an inspiration to give of one's self to better the lives of others. He will be sorely missed daily.
Calling hours will be held Friday, January 24, 2014 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home at 547 Canton Road, Akron, 44312. Funeral Service will be held Saturday, January 25, 2014 at 10 a.m., with burial immediately following at Hillside Memorial Park at 1025 Canton Road, Akron, 44312.
