Pauline Wilkerson

Pauline Wilkerson, age 92, passed away July 24, 2013 after a short illness.

Born February 19, 1921 in Hopkins County, Kentucky, to Nineveh G. and Katie Mae David Goad. Affectionately known as “Granny” to so many, Pauline was a dedicated homemaker who lived most of her adult life in Akron. Her greatest joy was preparing food for those she loved best: family, friends, and anyone who stopped in for a visit. She also loved to crochet and spent many hours creating afghans and doilies for her home and to give as gifts. Although she admitted to not being outdoorsy, she nonetheless enjoyed pretty flowers and raising garden vegetables. She especially enjoyed the perennial flower gardens planted for her by her late husband, Thomas, to whom she was married for 66 years.

Pauline was preceded in death by husband, Thomas in 2007; parents; brother, William Goad; sister, Virginia Jewell; and grandson, Joshua Bussey. She is survived by daughters, Annette (James) Davidson and Linda Bussey (Stephen Yagello); four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; as well as many other family and friends who knew and will miss her. Special thanks to her home healthcare aids, Silas and Ashley, who enabled her to be home for a few happy weeks, and to the dedicated staff in the Summa Akron City Palliative Care Unit.

Funeral service will be Saturday, 3:30 p.m. at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Road, Akron, Ohio 44312, with Reverend Brent Easton officiating. Private burial will take place at Hillside Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2 p.m. until service time Saturday. Memorials may be made in Pauline’s name to the Acute Palliative Care Unit at Summa Akron City Hospital, 525 E. Market Street, Akron, OH 44309.
