Paul A. Lang, who was born April 17, 1943 in Akron, Ohio to Harry and Helen Lang, died suddenly but peacefully at home on September 20, 2016.
He grew up in Ellet, Ohio next to St. Matthew Church, where he also went for his elementary education. He was a neighborhood paperboy for the Akron Beacon Journal. Paul graduated from St. Vincent High School in 1961, and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree of Pharmacy from the University of Toledo School of Pharmacy in 1966. He then went on to obtain two graduate degrees: an MBA in Finance from the University of Akron College of Business Administration in 1970, and a Juris Doctor from the University of Akron School of Law in 1976.
Paul married Patricia Helena Streich at St. Matthew Church on December 14, 1974 and moved to Uniontown, Ohio where he lived the rest of his life. Paul and Patricia welcomed their only child, David Paul Lang, on September 5, 1980. Paul practiced Hospital and Retail Pharmacy until his retirement in March 2011. He also practiced law part-time. Paul was a lifelong learner, and kept up his professional licenses even after retirement. He was inquisitive by nature. He was personable and delighted in talking with anyone about any subject. He would freely give his time and energy to others without expectation of reward. Memberships included the Akron Bar Association, Summit County Pharmaceutical Association and the Ellet Men’s Breakfast Club. He served as a board member of the Catholic Charities of Cleveland Diocese. He followed the Cleveland Cavaliers and Ohio State football.
Paul was preceded in death by his father and mother; brother, Timothy Lang; and sister, Rosemary McHaddon. He is survived by Patricia, his wife of 41 years and son Dr. David Lang; he is also survived by his brother, Richard “Dick” Lang; his sister, Dr. Jean Lang LoIudice; sisters-in-law, Barbara Streich, Donna Musch, Linda (Gus) Kern and Ruth (Dan) White; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and his former law partner, George Emershaw.
Friends and family will be received Sunday, from 2 to 7 p.m. at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Road (Route 91), Akron (Ellet), Ohio 44312. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, 11 a.m. at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, 1800 Steese Road, Uniontown, Ohio 44685 with Father David Durkee presiding. Procession will originate at the funeral home. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. The family suggests memorials to Queen of Heaven Church; or Walsh Jesuit High School, 4550 Wyoga Lake Road, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio 44224.
