"Together Again"
Norman Bruce Gilbert II, age 93, went to his heavenly home on March 10, 2017. Norman died peacefully in his sleep at home, surrounded by his loving family.
Norman was born in Akron in 1923 and resided in Suffield almost 60 years. He loved to travel, was a real outdoorsman and loved to spend time with his family. Norman was a World War II Navy Veteran who saw active duty aboard the USS Vincennes from 1941 to 1945. He was the greatest man from the greatest generation.
Norman was preceded in death by his wife, Irma Jean (Cooley); parents, Earl and Margaret (Laube); sister, Mary Humeniuk; and daughters, Kay T. Powell and Lisa A. Gilbert. He is survived by his loving children, Judi Cowart, Lyn Gilbert and Bruce Gilbert (Rhonda); 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Norman was the Past Senior Vice Commander of Mogadore VFW Post 8487, and was a member of the Mogadore Moose.
The family would like to thank all who cared for our dear one, especially the kind souls from Crossroads Hospice.
Friends and family will be received Wednesday, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Road (Route 91), Akron (Ellet), Ohio 44312. Funeral service will follow Wednesday, 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home with Crossroads Hospice Chaplain Matt Doerle officiating. Burial will take place at East Akron Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted by Mogadore VFW Post 8487. The family suggests memorials to Crossroads Hospice, 3743 Boettler Oaks Drive, Suite E, Green, OH 44685.
