Millie J. Allison went home to be with the Lord on March 1, 2025.
She was born in Akron, Ohio at her grandparents’ home on Kelly Ave. to the late Walter and Lillie (Burgess) Stroup. Millie was the eldest daughter of 5 children. She graduated from Garfield High School in 1948. That same year she married Alden O. Allison.
Millie was a life-long member of Thomastown/Springfield Baptist Church. She worked tirelessly teaching Nursery II classes, as a trustee, decorating the church and as a kitchen worker. Millie was a woman of tremendous faith. Recently, she has attended Horizon Christian Fellowship with her friend Becky.
Following her retirement as a floral designer at Herwick’s in Barberton she kept busy gardening, crocheting, reading and traveling. A highlight of her travels was a Mission trip to Guatemala when she was 75.
Millie was preceded in death by her husband, Alden, and brothers, Walter and George Stroup. She is survived by daughters, Susan (David) Claytor and Peggy (Scott) Weichl; six grandchildren: Kit (Kinsley) Claytor, Cathy (Eric, Evan, Emrie, Owen, Ireland) Chanay, John (Ashlee, Lily, Graham) Claytor, Andy (Savannah) Weichl, Matt (Lolly, Devyn, Audrey, Censee) Weichl, Josh (Hope) Weichl. Millie is also survived by her sisters, Shirley Wilson and Terry Walker.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Thursday, March 6th at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Rd. Akron, OH 44312, from 5 to 7 pm. Interment will be at 10:15 am on Friday, March 7th at Ohio Western Reserve. Memorials may be made to the Haven of Rest, 175 E. Market St. Akron, OH 44308.
