Mildred N. "Millie" Fenton, 91 of Laurel, MD, passed away Sunday, December 15, 2024.
She was born in 1933 to Eugene and Cleo (Kittle) Rucker in Junior, West Virginia. Shortly thereafter, the family moved to Akron Ohio. She resided in the Akron area and Mogadore until 1973.
Millie retired in 1998 from the National Institutes of Health Bethesda, Maryland where she conducted secretarial and office manager duties in the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke. Each year, she was a part of the NIH R&W Theatre Group performing ballroom dancing with her husband Howard. Millie was President of the NCO&EM Wives Club, belonged to the Laurel Garden Club, and later volunteered at the Laurel Senior Activity Center.
Millie married the love of her life, Howard, in 1973 and they spent 44 years enjoying music, dancing, and laughter with friends and family. They spent the best of times travelling to Hawaii, dancing on Sunday afternoons at Pen Mar Park in Pennsylvania, or taking dance lessons in Miami, Fl. They spent many weekends at their "cabin in The Woods" in Hedgesville, West Virginia.
Millie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 44 years, Howard "Howie" Fenton; and her brother, Eugene Rucker. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Jill Anderson (Gary), St. George, UT; sisters, Barbara Lewis and Beverly Haus, Green, OH; several nieces and nephews; and other dear friends.
Memorial donations in Millie’s memory may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project (woundedwarriorproject.org).
Family and friends will be received Monday, December 23rd from 11:30 am to 1 pm at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Rd. Akron, OH 44312. Funeral service will begin at 1 pm with burial to follow at Hillside Memorial Park.
