Mildred Mae (Roth) Ebie
Mildred Mae (Roth) Ebie, 104, of Brimfield passed away on Saturday, November 5, 2016.
Born December 22, 1911 in Mogadore, Ohio to Francis and Helen (Nash) Roth, she was a lifetime resident of Portage County and lived in Brimfield for more than 90 years. At 104, she was the oldest resident of Brimfield. Mildred graduated from Brimfield High School in 1929 as valedictorian of her class. She served as the editor of the yearbook and was on the track team.
On December 25, 1930, Mildred married Howard Dale Ebie, a young farmer from Brimfield. They built a house on the farm and lived there until Howard’s death on December 4, 1986. Mildred continued to live on their farm until 2015 when she became a resident of Altercare of Brimfield.
She loved the outdoors and instilled that love of nature into her five children and many grandchildren.
Mildred raised award winning roses for many years. She had many beautiful flower gardens, great vegetable gardens, and continued mowing her two acre lawn, raking leaves, and feeding the birds and squirrels into her late 90’s.
Mom worked at the Hartville Basket Factory until starting a family and becoming a stay at home Mom. It sure was great to come home from school and smell the homemade ketchup.
Mildred was a member of the Springfield Church of the Brethren, Akron Rose Society, Broccoli Belles and Brimfield Gals.
Although macular degeneration took a toll on her eyesight and ended her indoor hobbies she was a very brave lady.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Howard; son-in-law, Leslie King; daughter-in-law, Brenda Ebie; brothers, Francis, Alfred and Leonard Roth; sister, Esther Lauersdorf; and the eleven siblings of her husband’s family. She is survived by her children, Shirley King, David Ebie, Dennis (Sharon) Ebie, and Rod (Janice) Ebie, all of Brimfield and Donna (Bill) Kibler of Edinburg; her grandchildren, Alan, Pam, Linda, Doug, Michelle, Lisa, Kevin, Greg, Brenda, Jeff, Brian, Tim, Paul, Jennifer, Cody, Dustin, Matthew and Holly; 35 great grandchildren; and 11 great-great grandchildren. She will also be missed by her many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Friends and family will be received Friday, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Springfield Church of the Brethren, 3500 Albrecht Avenue, Akron, Ohio 44312, and on Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church. Funeral service will be Saturday, 11 a.m., Pastor Alan E. Brumbaugh officiating. Burial will follow at Restland Cemetery in Brimfield. The family suggests memorials to her church, Springfield Church of the Brethren.
Mildred’s family would like to extend their special thanks to the entire staff of Altercare for their kind and concerned care, especially Virgil, Mona, April, June, Jill and Joy.
