Michael James Flynn, age 73, peacefully went to be with the Lord on January 31, 2018.
Born in Akron, he lived in the Canal Fulton and Akron areas all of his life, graduating from Coventry High School. Michael served as a Lance Corporal in the U.S. Marines during the Viet Nam War, and was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and thrift shopping, and was known as a good handyman. Michael was a very loving father, and was caring, gracious, giving and friendly to everyone.
He was preceded in death by his son, Scott; brother, Larry; and sister, Beverly, and is survived by his wife, Joan; daughters, Shannon and Kellie; grandchildren, Stephanie (Michael) Mahaney, Amy (Jason) Derr, Christopher, Rachel and David Hardy; great-granddaughter, Charlotte Mahaney; step children, Jodi Denham and Paul (Maureen) Hardy; and sisters, Mary Ann Easterling, Eileen Johnson and Diane Azar.
Family and friends will be received Monday, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Road (Route 91), Akron (Ellet), Ohio 44312. Funeral Mass will follow the visitation Monday, 11 a.m. at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 2580 Berne Street, Akron, Ohio 44312 with Father Michael Williamson presiding. Private burial will be held at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Seville. The family suggests memorials to the Disabled American Veterans at www.dav.org.
