Merlin D. "Doc" Swank

Merlin D. “Doc” Swank, age 90, went home to be with the Lord on June 22, 2015. 

Born in Akron, he lived most of his life in Suffield. Merlin was a graduate of East High School, and was a D-Day survivor while serving in the Army 29th Infantry Division during World War II. Merlin retired from the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company. He enjoyed golfing, and was an accomplished violinist. 

He is survived by sons, Jeff Swank and Guy (Mary) Swank; grandchildren, Jeffrey Swank and Sam Swank; brother, Roland (Norma) Swank; one niece; and two nephews. 

Family and friends will be received Friday, from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Road (Route 91), Akron, Ohio 44312, where funeral service will be held Friday at 2:30 p.m. Burial with military honors provided by Mogadore VFW Post 8487 will follow at East Akron Cemetery.
