Merle B. Kittinger “Granny” (nee Bowen), age 85, went home to be with the Lord December 2, 2014.
Born in Akron, she lived in the Akron area all of her life, and graduated from Springfield High School. Merle was the co-owner of Kittinger Trucking, where she served as secretary/treasurer for over 40 years. Merle was a lifelong member of North Springfield Presbyterian Church, and in 1975 she coordinated an Outreach Program for the disadvantaged, for which she received recognition from the Presbytery. Merle volunteered with Mobile Meals for many years, and was also a Girl Scout leader for over ten years. She was an avid reader and enjoyed music and playing the piano. Trained in opera, she sang in the church choir for many years.
Preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Merle is survived by her former husband, Charles; sons, Chris and Bruce (Becky); daughters, Susan (Rob) and Melissa (Randy); many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and sisters, Shirley and Paula. She also leaves behind many relatives and friends.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, 4 p.m. at North Springfield Presbyterian Church, 671 Canton Road, Akron, Ohio 44312, with Mark Klein officiating. The family suggests memorials to the church.
