Melissa (Sauer) Wardell

Melissa Michelle Wardell passed away September 30, 2015 at the age of 43 after a tenacious battle with cancer. Her best friend and husband, Sean, was by her side. 

Melissa was born in Akron and raised in North Canton and Mogadore (Class of 1990). She earned two bachelor’s degrees from Kent State and master’s and doctoral degrees from Walden University in Industrial and Organizational Psychology. Her home was Ruskin, Fla. and she taught high school English and Journalism at the Manatee School for the Arts. She was a loving wife to her husband, Sean; the beloved daughter to Susan Sauer and Ed Sauer (Gara); and sister of Renee (Darrin) McCrea. She is also survived by nephew, John, and nieces, Victoria and Isabella. Her strength and wit were treasured by loving parents-in-law, Hamilton and Rose Wardell, and sister-in-law Richelle (Cristina). She will be dearly missed by many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. 

Visitation will be held Friday, October 16th from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 34 S. Cleveland Avenue (Route 532), Mogadore, Ohio 44260. Memorial service will be held at Oak Hill Presbyterian Church, 2406 Ardwell Avenue, Akron Ohio 44312, on Saturday October 17th at 11 a.m. with Pastor Brian Nutt officiating. Cremation has taken place. Interment at Standing Rock Cemetery in Kent, Ohio.
