Mary Ann Traina passed away on May 9, 2016 surrounded by her family.
She was born on November 28, 1940 to Joseph and Pearl Khoury (Kouri) in Akron, Ohio. Mary Ann was a proud graduate of St. Martha’s Elementary, St. Vincent’s High School, and the University of Akron. After graduating college, Mary Ann worked at Akron General Tire as an Executive Secretary until 1973 when she quit to devote her life to being a mother and a wife. After raising her family, she returned to General Tire and ultimately retired from Novar Controls. Mary Ann was a master baker, chef, seamstress and crafter. There wasn’t a meal or dessert she couldn’t make. She was always willing to teach others how to make her signature dishes.
Mary Ann used her incredible sewing skills to make unique outfits for her family. She was especially skilled at making Halloween outfits for her children. She was extremely proud of her Lebanese Heritage, her family, and her faith. She was a founding member of Nativity of the Lord Jesus Catholic Church and a member of Delta Gamma (Eta Chapter).
She leaves behind her beloved husband, Carl to whom she was married 47 years; her daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Tom Brewer; her son and daughter-in-law, Matthew and Jennifer Traina; and her precious grandchildren, Ty Penick, Emily Traina, and Rachel Brewer. She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law, David and Penny Khoury; and sister and brother-in-law, Theresa and David Mackil. She also leaves many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends whom she loved deeply. The family would like to thank the staff at Akron General ICU for their care and compassion in caring for Mary Ann these last three weeks.
Friends and family will be received Friday, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Road (Route 91), Akron (Ellet), Ohio 44312. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, 10 a.m. at Nativity of the Lord Jesus Catholic Church, 2425 Myersville Road (at Killian Road), Akron, Ohio 44312 with Father David Halaiko presiding. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Donations may be made in Mary Ann’s memory to the Cleveland Clinic-Lerner Research Institute-Breast Cancer Vaccine Fund to support the work of Dr. Vincent Tuohy or to The Nativity of the Lord Jesus Catholic Church.
