Mary Jacqueline Smith

September 8, 1926 — February 1, 2013

Mary Jacqueline Smith-Moneypenny-Plotts died peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family Friday, February 1, 2013.

Mary was born in East Akron on September 8, 1926, to the late Charlie and Hannah Smith. She was a lifelong resident of Portage and Summit Counties, including the last 49 years in Mogadore. As the mother of eleven children, Mary dedicated her life to her children and their families. She enjoyed watching the sporting events that her family participated in as well as the Cleveland Indians, tennis, and college football. She also enjoyed going to exercise class, keeping up on current events, and politics.

As a person of great moral character, Mary possessed unlimited compassion toward those in need, especially children and animals. What she loved most though was spending time with her family. She was always so proud of her children and their families no matter how big or small their accomplishments, and her family was so fortunate to have such a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother.

Mary was preceded in death by sons, Charles E. “Chucky” Moneypenny and Richard L. “Rick” Moneypenny; great-great-granddaughter, Aaliyah Ali; husbands, Leo R. Moneypenny and Glenn H. Plotts; and sister, Jane Smith. She is survived by her children, Veronica A. Gracie, Linda M. (Tim) Smith, Daniel J. (Amy) Moneypenny, David J. Moneypenny, Dennis G. (Sandie) Moneypenny, Timothy P. (Wendy) Moneypenny, Laura B. (Jeff) Whaley, Jeffrey M. Moneypenny, and Edward G. Plotts; 22 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson; sister, Jo Ann Talkington; and brothers, Charlie Smith, Don Smith, Jerry Smith, Jimmy Smith, and Richard Smith; and many in-laws and nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her two faithful canine companions, Taz and Judy; and cat, Lucky.
