Mary Jacqueline Dzubara (Dunford) was born to Duward D. Dunford and Lucy Belle Nave Dunford on April 5, 1927. She died after a long illness on March 7, 2014.
Jacquie attended Annunciation Grade School (Visitation of Mary), East High School and Akron University. During her summer vacations she worked at Akron Credit Bureau, and at Christmas time at O’Neil’s Department Store in the perfume department. She also worked at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in the tax department. After leaving Goodyear, Jacquie met and married George M. Dzubara. They had six children together. Later she worked at Firestone in the Workers Compensation Department. In 1987 after her husband died, she went to work at St. Matthew’s Credit Union, now known as Ohio Catholic Credit Union. She worked there for 23 years until she retired at the age of 80. Jacquie was very active in St. Matthew’s Church Guild, the PTA, and the K of C Ladies Guild. Jacquie was known for her sewing, crocheting, knitting, canning, gardening, bridge, and her deep faith in our Lord and the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Preceded in death by her husband, George Sr.; and son, George M. Jr.; her father and mother; sister, Theresa L. Cox; brother, Dan D. Dunford; and recently her sister-in-law, Betty Hollman of Los Angeles. She is survived by children, Lucy A. O’Neil (Shawn), Julie C. Horinger, Joseph (Susan), and Jane Burt (Steve), all of Akron, and Mary Helen Zak (Richard) of Baltimore, Md.; grandchildren, John Horinger, M.D., Jason (Gretchen) Horinger, Jessica Horinger, Taylor Dzubara (US Army), and Caitlyn Dzubara, all of Akron, Richard, Kathleen, Alexander and Theresa Zak of Baltimore, Md., Marissa, Spencer (USMC) and Bryce Dzubara of Akron, Timothy Burt (US Army) and Jack Burt of Akron; great-grandson, Ewan Horinger; sister, Virginia (Tom) Thompson of Akron; and sister-in-law, Marlene Dunford of Tallmadge.
She also leaves close friends, Sr. Delrina Clarins and Fr. Leveque Bien-Aime of Haiti. Thank you for your many prayers and friendship, it meant a great deal to our mom. Although an original Akronite, Jacquie leaves many well-traveled nieces and nephews – Pittsburgh, Pa., New York, Atlanta, Ga., Kentucky, Virginia, Michigan, Massachusetts, Los Angeles, Calif., Oregon, Columbus, Ohio, and South Carolina. Jacquie wishes to thank several people who have helped her these past years, Dave for keeping her beautiful; her caregivers that she loved, Katie, Jenny, Karen and Cherie; Mr. Chuck Nassur, her favorite pharmacist and Dr. Emil Hayek for keeping her alive; and Brenda, her friend and neighbor. Also thank you to her bridge playing ladies for all the fun and friendship.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Road, Akron, Ohio 44312. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, 11 a.m. at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 2580 Berne Street, Akron, Ohio 44312 with Father Michael Williamson presiding. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
