Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Reese Cleavenger

Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Reese Cleavenger, age 86, passed away April 5, 2014.

She was born December 18, 1927 and graduated as valedictorian from Uniontown High School, where she was school pianist for six years. Betty continued her education and graduated from the University of Akron with both a Bachelor of Science and Master degree in Education Administration. She worked in Akron Public Schools as a teacher for ten years and as a principal for 27 years, retiring in 1985.

Betty was an avid reader and loved doing needlework. Her home was decorated with her finished pieces that her husband matted, framed and hung. She enjoyed playing bridge and traveling. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church, Billow Chapter #483 OES, charter member of Alpha Delta Kappa Nu Chapter, Akron Woman’s City Club, and College Club of Akron.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Charles; her parents, Robert and Mary Leitch; and her grandmother, Sinia E. Smith. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Katherine Mosher (Robert); stepdaughter, Marcinda Franks (Bob); grandsons, Timothy Mosher (Amelia) and Daniel Mosher (Bethany); and great-grandchildren, Nathaniel, Anna and Carly Mosher.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, from 5 to 7 p.m., and Wednesday, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Road, Akron, Ohio 44312. An Eastern Star service will begin at the funeral home Wednesday at 10:30 a.m., immediately followed by a Memorial service with Rev. Bob Stephens officiating. Private inurnment will take place at Hillside Memorial Park. The family suggests memorials to Hospice of Summa, 1077 Gorge Blvd., Akron, OH 44310.
