Marvin Dale Deaton, 88, passed away August 11, 2016 in Oak Park, Ill.
He was born in South Akron to the late Harlan and Jeannetta (Pahl) Deaton. He attended St. Mary’s School, St. Charles High School (Baltimore), was a graduate of Cuyahoga Falls High School and attended Loyola University Chicago. Marvin was a proud United States Marine (1946-1970), who served with distinction in North China, Japan, Philippines, Okinawa and Vietnam. After retiring from the Marine Corps, Marvin returned to Akron and pursued a second career as account manager at Metzger’s Photo Supply. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Fourth Degree, and Charles Reymann Council 4664.
Marvin was a loving husband to his wife of 65 years, Annabel; caring father and grandfather of Mark, Dawn (Fogle), Patrick, and Hannah (Miller); big brother to David White. Preceded in death by step-father, William White; and sister, Barbara White (Bresnahan). Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at St. Catherine-St. Lucy Parish in Oak Park, Illinois.
Friends and family will be received 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Road (Route 91), Akron (Ellet), Ohio 44312 where a prayer service will be held at the conclusion of the visitation. Graveside services and burial will be held Friday 9:30 a.m. at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. Procession will originate at the funeral home at 8:30 a.m. The family suggests memorials to Marine Corps.
