Martin Arthur Rohner, 90, born January 12, 1923 in an area of Akron, Ohio known as “Goosetown” to Albert and Sadie Rohner, passed away January 22, 2013 following a brief illness.
He married Maxine Elaine Lynch of Goodyear Heights in 1945. They have been married 67 years. Martin retired from Bethlehem Steel Wire Rope Division as Foreman in 1984 in Portland, Oregon. The Rohners returned to Akron in 1984. Martin was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church, former member of Portage Lakes AARP, and a member of Firestone Park Primetimers.
He was pre-deceased by parents; granddaughter, Carrie Ann Woodford; brother, Herbert G.; sister, Fern L. Rohner; and son-in-law, Paul J. Werab. He leaves behind wife, Maxine; daughters, Elaine Woodford of Green and Lynn Werab of Atwater; grandchildren, Meredith (Kenton) Kober, Darren (Kerri) Werab, Cindy (Jeff) Greene, Kristi (Dave) Bunker, Chad (Robin) Werab; great-granddaughters, Victoria, Kaitlin, Alexandria and Hayden; and sister-in-law, Lois Layman of Pennsylvania. The family wishes to thank The Chapel Hill Community in Canal Fulton & Hospice of Medina County for their outstanding kindness and care of our husband and father through the last couple of weeks.
Funeral service will be Friday, 11:30 a.m. at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 3553 Northdale Street NW, UNIONTOWN, Ohio 44685 (one block NW of the square of 619 & Cleveland Ave.) with Rev. Robert W. Tauscher Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Atwater Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until service time Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Concordia Lutheran Church, 724 Sumner Street, Akron, OH 44311.
