"Together Forever" Martha “Carolyn” Griffin, age 85, passed away on July 26, 2016.
Born in Atlanta, Georgia to Joseph and Gladys (Mote) Johnson, she lived in the Akron area most of her life, and graduated from Springfield High School in 1949. After she retired from Sam Winer Motors, Carolyn and her husband enjoyed 15 years in Florida before returning to the Akron area. She enjoyed watching all sports and playing golf, and loved being a homemaker. Carolyn was a member of Lakemore United Methodist Church.
Preceded in death by her husband, William “Carlton”; daughter-in-law, Ann Griffin; granddaughter, Kristine Luna; and great-granddaughter Lily Heffelfinger; and sister-in-law, Laura Caldwell, she is survived by sons, William (Jill), Richard (Debbie), Robert and David (Miyuki); daughter, Cathy Blakely; 15 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren and one on the way; sister, Wilma (John) McMenamee Finlaw; nieces, Robin and Rachelle (Jerry); and sisters-in-law, Betty Criss and Mary Winkelman. Carolyn was loved and will be missed by nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Carolyn’s family would like to express their appreciation to Denise and the staff at Legacy Living.
Graveside services and burial will be held at 12 noon on Friday, August 5, 2016 at Hillside Memorial Park, 1025 Canton Road, Akron, Ohio 44312 with Pastor Jeff Gindlesberger officiating. The family suggests memorials to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation, 1359 Broadway, Suite 1509, New York, NY 10018.
