Marie Gartland

Marie went to be with her Lord and Savior on February 20, 2012.

She was born in Linton, Indiana, the daughter of Grover and Edith Courter Elkins, and moved to Akron when she was 2 years old. She was employed by Federman's, Ohio Box Board and managed a Honadle Candy Store. Marie was a long time member of Springfield Assembly of God Church where she served as a greeter and past president of Women's Ministries. She loved to sing and travel.

Marie is survived by daughters, patti (Dan) Hilliard and Coni (Lou) Lichi; grandchildren, Jodi Jones, Greg Lichi, Robert (Jill) Hilliard and Debbie Legendrel great-grandchildren, Madison, Braxton, Samantha, Heather, Taylor and Frederick; sister, Betty Cain of Colorado; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ralph; son, David; parents; sisters, Dorothy Emery, Trevis Parsons, Oneita Cummings, Ruth Kline; and brothers, Paul and Bill Elkins.

Funeral services will be held Monday, 11 a.m., at Springfield Assembly of God Church, 1551 Canton Rd., Akron 44312, with Rev. Joseph B. Serbin officiating.  Interment at Hillside Memorial Park.  Friends may call at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Rd., Akron 44312, from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, and at the church from 10 a.m. until service time Monday.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Missions Department of Springfield Assembly of God Church.
