Mabel H. Rex, age 93, passed away peacefully on January 22, 2015.
Born in Webster County, W.Va. to Willie and Lorraine Howell, she lived in the Akron area most of her life. Mabel had been employed with Firestone, Polsky’s and retired from Montgomery Ward after many years of dedicated service. She enjoyed cooking, especially using the items she grew and canned from her garden. Mabel especially loved fishing and camping. She felt so honored when her first great-grandchild, Camren was born and they shared a very special bond.
Preceded in death by her husband, Marvin in 1995, Mabel is survived by her daughter, Rita Smith of Copley; and son, William (Kathy) of Doylestown; grandchildren, Brian (Heather), Kevin and Katie Rex; great-granddaughter, Camren Rex; sister-in-law, Peggy Howell; and former daughter-in-law, Karen Blaine. The family would like to thank the staff of the Doylestown Health Care Center as well as the staff at ClearPath Hospice Care for their loving care of Mabel.
Funeral service will be Tuesday, 11 a.m. at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Road (Route 91), Akron, Ohio 44312 with Chaplain Janice Smith officiating. The family will receive friends Monday, from 5 to 7 p.m., and also from 10 a.m. until service time on Tuesday. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Akron. The family suggests memorials to ClearPath Hospice Care, 450 Grant Street, Suite 220, Akron, OH 44311.
