Loren E. Bean Loren E. Bean, 80, of Akron caught the midnight train to his heavenly home on Monday, April 29, 2013.
He was born June 5, 1932 in Uniontown to the late Lawrence and Berdella Bean. Loren graduated from Akron East High School in 1951. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War and held the rank of corporal upon discharge. Loren was a proud member of the KWVA #138, Firestone VFW Post #3383, 3rd Infantry Division Outpost #57 and the CIB Association. He had worked for the Acme Grocery Company prior to his employment at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, where he retired in 1993. Loren was a lifetime member of New Horizons Church, was an avid train collector and belonged to the TCA. He was a walking baseball encyclopedia and a lifelong supporter of the Cleveland Indians and the Pittsburgh Pirates.
He is survived by his wife, Christine, the love of his life for the last half century; his son, John; daughter, Susan; grandchildren, Jordan, Joey, Chyna, and Kariya; great grandchildren, Kasen and Rome; brother-in-law, Arden Hartman; sisters-in-law, Carole Forester and Phyllis Hartman; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services Friday, 11 a.m. at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Road, Akron, Ohio 44312 with Reverend James Bane officiating. Burial at Hillside Memorial Park, where Firestone VFW Post #3383 will conduct military rites. Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. Friday until service time. The family suggests memorials to New Horizons Church, 290 Darrow Road, Akron, Ohio 44305, Humane Society of Greater Akron, 7996 Darrow Road, Twinsburg, Ohio 44087 or a Charity of One’s Choice.
