Lindsey T. Hayes was called into the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Dec. 18, 2022.
He was born to Tives and Laura Hayes in New Boston, Ohio on Oct. 11, 1929. He was immersed into the Christian community that would be his lifelong support from an early age.
He graduated from Ohio Northwest Bible College with a Bachelor of Arts degree; he also received a Master’s in English and a Master’s in Secondary Education from Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio.
He was ordained and served as a pastor for 50 years with the International Pentecostal Church of Christ. During his pastorates, he served several different churches until 1970 when he moved to Akron to serve Calvary Temple as pastor for over 30 years. Concurrent with his pastorates, he taught in the Akron Public School system and was a Professor for the University of Akron.
Lindsey was blessed with a loving family. In 1952, he and Vena Rose Conley were united in marriage and remained together for over 50 years until her passing. During this time, they raised four children. In 2003, he and Hazel Bordi were married and enjoyed 19 years together.
Preceding Lindsey in death were his parents, Tives and Laura Hayes, sister Dixie (Weldon) Miller, brothers Morris (Eleanor) Hayes, Robert (Betty) Hayes, Lon (Janet) Hayes and daughter Cynthia J. Perkins
Surviving is his wife Hazel Hayes, sisters Betty (Eddie) Combs, Rose (David) Henson, daughters Debra (Cletus) Griffin, Valerie (Dennis) Young, Caroline (Steve) Perkins. Grandchildren Justin (Tiffany) Litko, Jonathan (Miriam) Griffin, Michael (Stephanie) Young and Lindsay Young; Great Grandchildren Ashley and Jacob Litko and Olivia Young.
In addition, surviving stepchildren are Judy Pritchard, Thomas (Peggy) Kelly, Leilani (Kenneth) Bever; step grandchildren Patricia (Ronald) Grimm, Megan (Bill) Preston, Rodney (Angela) Pritchard, Christel (Shane) Durbec, Priscilla (Roy) Adams, Cole (Carissa) Bever, Carlee Bever, seven step great-great grandchildren and a multitude of friends.
Visitation will be Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at Calvary Temple, 3045 Albrecht Avenue, Akron with a celebration of his life beginning at 1:00 p.m. Burial immediately following at Hillside Cemetery.
