Lester H. Sayre Jr. age 87, went home to be with the Lord on April 24, 2015 after a long illness.
Born in Holidays Cove, W.Va., he lived most of his life in the Akron area. Lester served in the U.S. Army during World War II, where he was a Military Police Officer in Germany in the 820 Company. He retired from Goodyear Aerospace in 1982 after 40 years of service. Lester loved hunting and fixing anything, and also enjoyed gardening.
Preceded in death by daughter, Rebecca Grocott; he is survived by his wife of 65 years, Shirley M.; children, Norma Jean (Edward) Hershey, Richard Earl (Donna), Leslie Kay (Charles) Bittler and Lester H. Sayre III; six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; and brother, Earl Norman Sayre.
Funeral service will be Tuesday, 1 p.m. at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Road (Route 91), Akron, Ohio 44312, with Pastor Web Parsons officiating. Friends will be received from 11 a.m. until service time. Burial will follow at Mt. Peace Cemetery in Hartville, where military rites will be conducted. The family suggests memorials to Aultman Hospital Hospice and the American Cancer Society.
