Leroy "Mac" McHugh

Leroy “Mac” McHugh, 83, passed away February 18, 2015.

He was born in Cleveland and graduated from East Technical High School in 1950. Mac attended Asbury College in Wilmore, Kentucky and entered the U.S. Army in 1953. He married Dolores Large in 1954 and graduated with honors from Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science in 1956. Mac was employed with Joseph C. Schulte Funeral Home in South Euclid, Brown Forward Funeral Home in Shaker Heights, Daniels Funeral Home in Lakewood, and Wells-Kloss Funeral home in Lyndhurst, OH.

In 1969, he established the Kindrich-McHugh Funeral Home in Solon and retired in 1994 when the funeral home was purchased by Thomas Steinbauer. Mac was a member of the Pioneer Memorial Presbyterian Church in Solon; 30 year member and past president of the Solon Kiwanis Club, member of Masonic Lodge #75 F&AM, the Scottish Rite Valley of Cleveland and the Tadmor Shrine. He was a board member of the Solon Chamber of Commerce and was inducted into their Hall of Fame. Mac moved to Akron in 2001 when he married Dorla.

He is survived by his wife, Dorla “Dodie” H. Lawver and her family. Children, Doug (Joyce) of Los Alamos, NM, Scott (Jan) of Bedford, Lori (John) Nichols of Vermilion, Barry (Kathy) of Aurora and Kathi (Rich) Rennie of Amherst; 10 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and brother, Carl of Columbus. Special Appreciation to Crossroads Hospice and the staff at Independence Village for their compassion and capable care.

The family will receive friends 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Road (Route 91), Akron, Ohio 44312. Further visitation 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Kindrich-McHugh-Steinbauer Funeral Home, 33375 Bainbridge Road, Solon, Ohio 44139, where funeral service will be held at noon on Wednesday with Rev. Mark Thomas officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Cemetery.
