Leroy E. “Lee” Strawn joined the soul of his wife, Virginia in their heavenly home on November 3, 2016 at the age of 102 1/2. He was born the youngest of four children to Clyde and Dora Strawn on March 14, 1914 in Wood County, Ohio.
While living most of his married life in Akron, Ohio, he retired from The Firestone Tire and Rubber Company after 45 years of service and five additional years as a consultant. He was very active in High Street Christian Church as a trustee, elder, deacon, and teacher and continued his faith journey with several members of that congregation to create Harmony Springs Christian Church in Green, Ohio. He volunteered weekly at Good Neighbors Food Center for 38 years and was a member of Ellet Golden Keenagers. He was passionate about wood working and fixing things.
He was preceded in death by wife, Virginia in 2007; and grandson, Kenneth Strawn, and is survived by his daughter, Darleen Slater; son, Jack Strawn; grandchildren, Kevin Strawn, Christine (Mark) Serban, Carol (Ron) Fuerst; and great grandchildren, Nicholas, Hallie, Christopher and Eric.
Friends and family will be received Friday, from 6 to 8 p.m., and Saturday, from 1 to 2 p.m. at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Road (Route 91), Akron (Ellet), Ohio 44312. Funeral service will be Saturday, 2 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Joel Engman officiating. Private burial will follow at Hillside Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Good Neighbors Food Center, 1453 Goodyear Blvd., Akron, OH 44305; or Harmony Springs Christian Church, P.O. Box 428, Uniontown, OH 44685.
