Leonard “Len” Lee Gabriel, 81, passed away on July 20, 2021. Born in Akron on January 20, 1940, he graduated from St. Mary High School and attended the University of Akron. He served as a sergeant in the United States Army and retired from the F.W. Albrecht Company after 33 years of service.
Len had a love of cars, owning one of the first Mustangs in Akron as well as several other sports cars. He was an avid reader, liked working in his yard, and spent extensive time researching his family’s genealogy. After he retired, Len could be found at a local restaurant enjoying the morning paper with a good cup of coffee. His faith was important to him. He was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church for many years while living in Mogadore.
Len was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Rose Gabriel; sisters, Ann (Bob) Cook, Genevieve (Ben) Prusinowski, and brother, William (Sophie) Gabriel. He is survived by brother, Gerald (Barbara) Gabriel, as well as many nieces and nephews. Len wanted to give a special thanks to his nieces; Cindy, Carla, Beth, Paula, Sue and Alison for the comfort and care they provided. The family would like to thank Len’s caregivers and friends at Liberty Residence II as well as the staff from Crossroads Hospice.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 2603 Benton Ave. Akron, Ohio 44312, on Tuesday, July 27, 2021 with Rev. Michael Williamson presiding. Visitation will take place at 10:00 AM at the church, one hour prior to the start of mass. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery in Akron will immediately follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Akron Children’s Hospital - Showers Family Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders or may be made to your favorite charity in Len’s memory.
